Manual Handling for Occupational Therapists
Overview - A course covering all aspects of Manual Handling along with providing delegates with the skills and knowledge needed to prescribe equipment, balancing the client’s needs and preferences against staff safety.
How many people can attend – Maximum of 10 delegates.
Theoretical overview including :-
- Legislation
- Back Care in and out of work
- Risk Assessment & balanced decision making
- Falls and Condemned Techniques
- Safer Handling principles
Practical session includes :-
- Chair manoeuvres
- Bed manoeuvres
- Small equipment demonstration
- Hoisting
- Use of other equipment
All courses follow a problem solving approach which enables delegates to learn from a hands-on process of critique and peer review.
To increase skills and knowledge in this specialised field we highly recommend that Occupational Therapists in relevant specialities should attend the Therapeutic Handling Workshop which looks at using manual handling as a tool for Rehabilitation.
