Maximum of 12 delegates per course

2 day refresher cover the same issues as on the more detailed 4 day course aimed at refreshing delegates knowledge and skills.

Detailed Description

An intensive two day training course for qualified trainers who wish to update their knowledge in People Handling. For a maximum of 8 delegates per course.

Anatomy of the Spine / Biomechanics and Back Care
  • Problems of back pain in the Social Care and Health sector
  • Structure and Function of the spine
  • Causes of back pain
  • Recognise dangerous posture and explain dangers
  • Avoid dangerous postures at work
Risk Assessment
  • Management of Risk
  • Relevant policies of employers
  • The need to monitor and report incidents and accidents
  • Discuss unusual manual handling problems with other delegates
  • Revise Risk Assessment skills
Ergonomics & Risk Reduction
  • The meaning and application of ergonomics to manual handling
  • Apply simple ergonomic principles to reduce the moving & handling risks of task
  • Discuss successful examples of the application of Ergonomics to Risk Assessment

Day 2

Practical Session
  • Discuss new manual handling equipment
  • Prescribe and teach the use of hoists and other appropriate moving and handling equipment
  • Revise a wide range of safe moving and handling techniques
  • Identify and avoid condemned and unsafe handling techniques
  • Advise staff on the use of manual handling equipment
